How to Determine Performance

When solar modules are manufactured, the final yield of each panel may vary. For example, a 230 watt panel is made up of 60 solar cells, each with a slight variance in performance, so the final yield of the solar panel could vary between 210 watts and 250 watts. Some manufacturers actually specify that their panel outputs will vary up to plus or minus 10%.

In a typical solar array grouping (12-14 panels), the output is determined by the lowest performing panel. Therefore, it is possible that this array of panels that is spec'd at 230 watts each, might only be outputting 220 watts each. In a large commercial installation, this could have a dramatic effect on the total performance of the system.

In our quest to provide maximum value for our customers, we only manufacture solar panels to a plus specification. Yes! What that means it, our solar panels are tested and rated at a plus only tolerance of 2%. Therefore, when you purchase a Premier Solar module rated at 230 watts, you are guaranteed that it will output at least 235 watts. On a large commercial installation, this will add up to many additional dollars in your pocket during the course of your contract.
